Pomeroy Living History Farm

Tour

Turning right at the vegetable garden, you will come across the Blacksmith Shop; this was an integral part of the pioneer farm life.  In the days of primitive or even nonexistent roads, farmers often had to supply their own tools and spare machine parts.  Since Mr. Pomeroy at one time worked as a blacksmith, his shop was probably better equipped than most.  The building itself is the oldest one on the farm and pre-dates 1910.  It was originally a house for mill hands upriver at the Lucia Mill.  It was then used for a short time as a school building, and finally was purchased by Mr. Pomeroy and moved to its present site.  Upstairs, Mr. Pomeroy repaired shoes for his entire family.
