Pomeroy Living
History Farm
Tour
Heading
onward, you will encounter the Chicken Coop which
has always kept the farm well supplied with fresh eggs, and meat
from chickens, ducks, and guinea hens.

Located right next to the
Chicken Coop, is the Barn. The Barn was built in
the 1930's by Thomas Pomeroy. In the north half he housed
his work horses and on the south side, he fed out his beef cattle
and milked the dairy
cows. The barn was filled clear up
to the rafters each winter with loose hay. Notice the
slings still hanging up at the west end which were used for
lifting the hay from the wagon and carrying it into the barn.
Next to the barn is where the Pigs were kept. They provided pork, ham, bacon, sausage, and lard as well as being the farm's best recyclers.
Near the pigs is the Granary, which was used for storing wheat and oats that had been raised on the farm. The oats were fed to the horses and the wheat to the chickens.
